Project One- Contextualization
Global Studies
For the first project I wanted to explore something personal to me. So I learned more about visual impairments and the impact that vision loss has on ones mental health. As someone who is affected by visual impairment I was quite intrigued to learn more about how the two connect. The Global studies portion was the more challenging part of the project. I struggled to gather relevant information most of the time and it was hard for me to look over the fact that I wasn't positive in the direction this section was headed. I first started by researching mental health. Which may seem off topic of visual impairment but I wanted to prove a point that mental illness and visual impairment are connected. So after I felt like I had enough information and research, I used a separate document to try to organize my research. After that I took the information I organized on the document above then I mapped out of a piece of paper what I wanted my mind map to look like. After I finished the paper mind map, I copied it down onto the computer to make it more presentable and legible.
English
For the English section of the project I decided to create an informative brochure targeted towards teachers with in coming blind or visually impaired students. My brochure was meant to touch upon different ways to help students participate in art and physical education while still doing something that they can do. Blind students might not be able to make a traditional painting, but there are a lot of different art related things that young blind students can and enjoy to do. The first photo on the left was an information dump. I used a pages template to layout information that I initially wanted to put into my flyer. So I started working on cleaning it up and making more visually appealing. I later reformatted It into a nicer looking flyer.
For the art portion I wanted to show people what my vision looked like when I was younger. Originally I was going to paint to recreate my condition. After talking to the art teacher Mr. Grandi, we came up with the concept of using photoshop. When I began using photoshop I really struggled. Im not very good with technology and this application was completely new to me. So I began picking images that would slightly resemble the perspective of a child. I started to adjust the image to match what my condition caused my eyes to do. I started by blurring the picture using the blur tool. After that, I used the clone stamp tool in photoshop to make the final image.
